The Story of our School
A Legacy of Faith, Service and Excellence
For more than a century, Timpany School has been far more than an educational institution. It has been a place where young minds were nurtured, character was shaped, lifelong friendships were forged, and generations of students were inspired to lead lives of purpose and service.
The Beginning (1883)
The story began in 1883, when Rev. A. W. Timpany, a Canadian Baptist missionary and physician, envisioned establishing a school alongside his medical mission in Visakhapatnam. Although he passed away before seeing his dream realised, the vision he planted continued to inspire those who followed.
A New Beginning (1931)
In 1931, missionary Miss Laura Bain revived the school in a modest rented building, recognizing the growing need for quality English-medium education. Government recognition in 1934 laid the foundation for its steady growth and development.
Becoming Timpany School
Over the following decades, the school evolved to serve an increasingly diverse student community. It occupied new premises, expanded its reach, and in 1961 was officially renamed Timpany School, a name that has since become synonymous with academic excellence, discipline, and values-based education.
Growth and Expansion
As enrolment grew, Timpany established its landmark Waltair Uplands Campus, dedicated in 1965, and later expanded into three campuses, offering both ICSE and CBSE curricula. This growth enabled the school to educate thousands of students while preserving its distinctive ethos and traditions.
A Legacy That Endures
Since 1973, the school's stewardship has continued under the Evangelical Trust Association of South India (ETASI), ensuring that its founding vision remains alive under Indian leadership.
Today, Timpany's greatest legacy is not its buildings or milestones, but its people. Generations of dedicated teachers, visionary leaders, and countless alumni have carried the school's values of faith, integrity, compassion, excellence, and service into every corner of the world. For every TIMPOT, Timpany is more than a school it is a lifelong family, a shared heritage, and a place that continues to inspire long after the final school bell has rung.
As custodians of this rich heritage, the Timpots Legacy Foundation is committed to preserving Timpany's remarkable story, celebrating those who built it, and ensuring that its legacy continues to inspire generations yet to come.
The story of Timpany is still being written, through every TIMPOT, everywhere in the world.
